The NYS Department of Health’s Bureau of Early Intervention and the Family Initiative Coordination Services Project at the Just Kids Foundation sponsor Early Intervention Partners Training Projects twice each year: 1) New York City in the fall, and 2) each spring on a rotating basis in different regions throughout the state. The Early Intervention Partners Training Project is for parents of infants and toddlers with disabilities currently receiving early intervention services and for parents serving on Local Early Intervention Coordinating Councils (LEICCs). Applications from parents involved in leadership roles in parent or disability organizations who interact with families of infants and toddlers with disabilities will be considered.

The Early Intervention Partners Training Project is for New York State parents of young children with disabilities to help them become more actively involved in Early Intervention Program leadership activities. The training sessions provide information, resources, and skill-building activities designed to increase parent advocacy and leadership skills.

The goals of the Early Intervention Partners Training Project are to:
  1. Assist parents to become more effective advocates for their young children with disabilities.
  2. Achieve a productive partnership between families of children with disabilities and Early Intervention policymakers.
  3. Increase the number of parents participating on Local Early Intervention Coordinating Councils in New York State.
  4. Create opportunities for parent graduates of the training sessions to become involved in national, state, and local level early intervention program and policy initiatives.
  5. Nurture and develop the leadership abilities of parents of children with disabilities receiving early intervention services and parent members of Local Early Intervention Coordinating Councils by enhancing their knowledge of the laws, regulations, and best practices that guide the Early Intervention Program.
