OPWDD Faith Based Initiative
The OPWDD Faith Based Initiative Program was instituted by Commissioner Diana Jones Ritter in 2007 with the mission of exploring new avenues and expanding opportunities for faith based choice for individuals with developmental disabilities. Parents who want to find faith communities that will welcome them and their developmentally disabled children are one of the populations served by the initiative. Parents should contact their Medicaid Service Coordinator or Active Treatment Coordinator and discuss how to add faith inclusion to their child's Individual Service Plan or Comprehensive Functional Assessment.

OPWDD Family Support Services
The Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Family Support Services program provides a range of supports including respite programs and reimbursement for certain goods and services. Find out more information about these services and supports by calling the Family Support Services Coordinator at your local DDSO. The Coordinator will be happy to assist you and your family.
Family Support Services can provide you with:
• Someone to call for support;
• Information about OPWDD programs and services;
• Someone to explain the benefits you're entitled to;
• Help arranging health care, education and recreational opportunities;
• Counseling and training to enhance family stability and to help you plan for the future;
• Transportation, special equipment or necessary home modifications;
• Help caring for a family member with a disability;
• Respite Services, which provide temporary relief from care giving;
• Family reimbursement for purchases of goods and services.

OPWDD Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities
The Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities (IBR) is the research arm of the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). IBR conducts basic and clinical research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities. It also provides specialized diagnostic and consultative services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, and educates the public and professionals regarding the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of developmental disabilities.
