Who can sign up?

The Early Intervention Partners Training Project is open to New York State parents and caregivers of young children with disabilities.
Eligible participants include:
• Parents or caregivers of infants and toddlers currently receiving Early Intervention services
• Parents or caregivers of children who are transitioning out of the Early Intervention Program
• Parents of children with disabilities under the age of 12 who currently serve on a Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council (LEICC)

Participants must reside in New York State. U.S. citizenship is not required to participate.

When are Partners Trainings held?

The New York State Department of Health's Bureau of Early Intervention and the Family Initiative Coordination Services Project at Just Kids Early Childhood Learning Center sponsor five Early Intervention Partners Trainings each year. Trainings are offered throughout New York State on a rotating regional schedule.

Where are Partners Trainings held?

The training is offered in different regions throughout New York State, including Long Island, the Downstate region (New York City and Westchester), the Northeast region, the Western region, and the Central region.

What will I learn?

The Early Intervention Partners Training Project helps parents become stronger advocates for their children and families. Throughout the training, you will gain practical information, resources, and leadership skills that can help you navigate the Early Intervention Program and support other families.

Topics include:
• Understanding the Early Intervention Program
• Developing and participating in the IFSP process
• Transitioning from Early Intervention to preschool services
• Parent rights and due process
• Advocacy and leadership skills
• Community resources and supports
• Opportunities to become involved at the local, regional, state, and national levels

What is the time commitment?

Parents who attend should participate in all sessions.

How much does it cost?

The training is provided at no cost to participants. Meals, training materials, and overnight accommodations are included. Limited funding is available to assist families with child care and travel expenses. Prior approval from the Family Initiative Coordinator is required for reimbursement.
